August Monthly Meeting

Our August meeting has come and gone and we had 23 in attendance.

Gene N4FZ gave a report on the ARRL Centennial W1AW/4 Kentucky operations. For the week of July 31 – 5 August, there were 24,713 QSO’s made with 19 stations operating. The breakdown was CW: 7,728, SSB: 13,351, DATA: 3,634. The grand total for both weeks was 55,878 QSO’s made. Gene, N4FZ made 1,933 digi QSO’s signing W1AW/4 from his shack. Tim Totten, N4GN, and Glenn Petri, KE4KY coordinated the event.  Kentucky was well represented and accessible in this ARRL Centennial. Happy Birthday to the ARRL!

Bruce KS4V did a fine presentation on “HF Signals in the 20M Band Plan”.  This included modes such as CW, Hellschreiber, PSK31, Olivia, JT65, RTTY, Packet, Winlink, Pactor, SSTV and Digital Voice.  Bruce noted the availability of freeware on the internet makes these modes very easy to use and afford.  Thanks Bruce!

Net Control Operators have been set for the next 4 weeks.  To view the NCO’s click here.

And finally, Ken found a old short video made by MGM in 1939 called “Radio Hams”, which told stories of long ago and far away Ham Radio rescues of those in distress. The end will surprise you!
